Dental Bonding

Women smiling after recieving cosmetic bonding from Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry Your teeth are a significant factor in the quality of your smile. Any flaws in your teeth, no matter how minor, can affect the appearance of your teeth, your smile, and your confidence. Fortunately, you do not have to live with minor imperfections in your teeth. Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry can help with bonding.

What is Bonding?

Bonding is a quick, simple cosmetic procedure that is designed to improve the appearance of teeth affected by minor flaws. This is done using composite resin, a substance made of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. When composite resin is first applied, it is soft and malleable. We can shape it to meet many different cosmetic needs to provide you with the best possible results. Bonding can treat a variety of different cosmetic concerns, including:
•  Chips and cracks in your tooth enamel.
•  Gaps between teeth.
•  Misshapen teeth, or those that are smaller than the rest.
•  Discoloration that cannot be whitened.

Improving Your Smile with Bonding

Bonding is a very easy, non-invasive treatment. You do not require a local anesthetic. We begin by cleaning your teeth. Next, an acid etch is applied to the areas where bonding will be placed. This etch creates a rough surface on your teeth, which aids in enhancing the bond between the composite resin and your tooth enamel. We then remove the acid by washing the teeth and dry them thoroughly. The composite resin is then applied and shaped to provide you with a completely natural appearance. Once the desired results have been achieved, a light is used to cure the material, and you leave the office with a brand-new, beautiful smile.

Taking Care of Your Bonding

Bonding is effective, but it also does require some special considerations. While you can brush and floss the material the same as your natural teeth, bonding is delicate. It can break under too much pressure. Biting down on hard objects can cause significant damage. Avoid chewing on ice, popcorn kernels, and your fingernails, and do not use your teeth as tools. It is also important to keep in mind that like your natural teeth, composite bonding can stain. Unlike your natural teeth, however, bonding cannot be whitened. If you want to whiten your teeth after bonding has been placed, your bonding will need to be changed to maintain a natural appearance.

Bonding Benefits

There are many benefits associated with bonding.
•  The process for placing your bonding is quick, typically only taking 30 minutes to complete.
•  Bonding is non-invasive. We do not need to alter your tooth structure, unlike veneers or crowns, and there is no need for a local anesthetic.
•  Bonding is one of the most affordable cosmetic treatments available.
•  Even though bonding is so simple, it allows us to completely transform the appearance of your teeth, which improves the appearance of your smile. Your new smile can also help to greatly boost your confidence.

With bonding, we can completely transform flawed teeth, improving the appearance of your smile and giving your confidence a major boost. For more information, and to find out if bonding is right for you, call Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry today at (623) 562-5230.
