Fluoride Treatments

When you smile, your teeth are often the very first thing that people notice. If you have crooked teeth, your smile is impacted, which can also affect your confidence. In addition to affecting the quality of your smile, crooked teeth can also impact your oral health, increasing your risk for tooth decay and gum disease, leading to bruxism, and more. Metal braces have long been the only solution available for treating crooked teeth. However, many patients find shiny metal braces embarrassing. At Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry, we can provide you with a more discreet treatment with Invisalign after a comprehensive exam. Traditional Metal Braces

Traditionally, crooked teeth have been treated using metal braces. This treatment uses metal brackets and wires, which are fixed to the surfaces of your teeth. At the beginning of your treatment, metal brackets are bonded to the front surfaces of each tooth. A metal wire, which spans the entire arch of teeth, is affixed to each bracket with an elastic O-ring called a ligature. The wires are responsible for the movement and stabilization of your teeth.

While effective, metal braces are incredibly visible in your mouth, dominating your smile. For many patients, this can be very embarrassing, causing more self-consciousness than having crooked teeth. Additionally, the brackets and wires can be uncomfortable. Brackets can rub your intraoral tissues, causing sores. If wires break, they can poke your cheeks, which can also cause pain.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern treatment for realigning crooked teeth. Instead of metal brackets and wires, this treatment uses clear, rigid plastic aligners to achieve a straighter, healthier, more beautiful smile. The aligners are completely clear, rendering them essentially invisible when you smile.

Additionally, the aligners are removable. They should only be removed to eat and brush your teeth though. For the best results in the shortest amount of time, your aligners should be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours each day. Invisalign can even be used in conjunction with the PROPEL System.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign is a treatment that involves the use of a series of aligners. These aligners are made from impressions of your mouth and are custom designed to provide you with optimal results. We take digital impressions of your mouth and use specialized software that can show us every step of your treatment, enabling you to see your new smile before your treatment even begins.

Each set of aligners is made to be worn for only two weeks at a time. Each set of aligners is slightly different from the ones before them, which aids in gradually shifting your teeth into proper alignment. Treatment length varies from patient to patient as well as your specific situation. You may go through anywhere from 18 to 30 sets throughout the duration of your treatment. Once treatment is over, a retainer is provided, designed to be worn while you sleep, to help you maintain your beautiful new smile.

Invisalign Benefits

There are many benefits associated with Invisalign treatment. These benefits include:

  • Discreet. Your aligners are clear plastic and are practically invisible in your mouth. No one will be able to tell that you are wearing them. When you smile, the focus will be on you, not the orthodontic appliances on your teeth.
  • Removable. Because you can remove your aligners, you can eat all of your favorite foods during your orthodontic treatment without restrictions. Also, brushing and flossing your teeth is much easier.
  • Comfort. Your aligners are smooth, making them much more comfortable. You do not have to worry about anything rubbing or poking your sensitive intraoral tissues.
  • Fewer office visits. You do not need monthly adjustments. We provide you with several sets of aligners at one time, which means that you do need as many visits to the office.
  • Shorter treatment time. Treatment with Invisalign is generally shorter than with traditional braces. The average treatment takes anywhere from 9 to 15 months, with most patients obtaining ideal results in less than a year.
